Living Voices: “Within the Silence” – Honoring the Day of Remembrance

February 19 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for this extraordinary storytelling experience, developed in partnership with the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian American Experience. Understand the impact of Executive Order 9066, which imprisoned thousands of innocent Japanese Americans during World War II, through the experiences of one young incarcerated citizen. In 1941, Emiko is an ordinary American teenager whose life is changed forever when racism and xenophobia explode against her community after Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, forcing her and every member of her family to find a way to prove their loyalty to a country that sees them as “the face of the enemy.”

Living Voices: Using historical perspectives based on real people and events, Living Voices combines live performance with audio/video, visual aids, and discussion. Archival film and photos, blended with sound and synchronized with a live actor, provide a dynamic, interactive experience of how the world looked, sounded, and felt during a significant time in history.
